Apple Sued By Chinese Clothing Brand Over Its App Store Logo

With iOS 11, Apple introduced a bunch of changes over the hood as well as on the surface, such as tweaking the design of certain apps and its icons. One of those changes Apple made is to the App Store’s icon that is applicable to both iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra. Unfortunately it seems that Apple might have infringed upon another company’s copyright in the process.

Chinese clothing brand Kon has recently filed a lawsuit against Apple for copyright infringement. The company alleges that the App Store’s logo too closely resembles the logo of their clothing brand. According to a report from Phone Radar (via AppleInsider), the company is now seeking financial compensation as well as a public apology, and are seeking an injunction on the infringing devices, which is pretty much every iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra compatible device.

The lawsuit was filed in the Beijing People’s Court and a judgement is said to be expected in the next couple of weeks, although we suppose it is pretty clear as to who is in the wrong as the App Store’s logo looks remarkably similar to that of Kon’s logo, save for the edges which are rounded instead of flat.

However at first glance, it is possible that some could be confused between the brands and might even mistake the App Store’s app as Kon’s app, or Kon’s clothing brand as maybe an Apple brand, but either way we guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
