Amazon is going to expand its Alexa digital personal assistant to more devices this year, the company has confirmed. The company has announced the launch of its Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit in order to make that happen. It’s a new way for device manufacturers to bring Alexa to their devices like smartwatches, headphones, fitness devices, and more. Amazon says that the accessory kit will let them add Alexa to their devices with minimum investment in hardware and integration efforts.

The Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit eliminates the need for OEM development teams to perform the bulk of the coding for integrating Alexa into their devices.

Bluetooth audio-capable devices that are built with this kit can directly connect to the Alexa Voice Service through the companion app for iOS and Android on the users’ mobile device. Users will thus be able to access all of the great features that Alexa has to offer.

Amazon isn’t actually going to release this toolset until later this year. Interested device manufacturers can now register their interest with the company to be notified with the kit does become available.

The company has confirmed that many device manufacturers have already started developing devices based on this kit. The manufacturers include the likes of Jabra, Bose, Bowers and Wilkins, iHome, and more.
