A while ago WhatsApp introduced a “Mentions” feature which basically lets users tag other users in a group chat, which can sometimes get a bit messy and spammy, so mentions lets users create messages targeting that user within the group chat. However oddly enough there were no specific notifications with the Mentions feature.

However according to WABetaInfo, the latest beta of WhatsApp for Android has revealed that notifications could be coming soon. However based on what we can see, these notifications are within the app itself, as opposed to external notifications that you would typically receive when you get a message.

As you can see in the screenshot above, when you are mentioned in a group chat and when you open that chat, there will be a numbered notification that will show depending on how many times you have been mentioned. Users can then tap on that button and it will jump to the first mentioned message, and users can keep tapping to jump to the rest until it is done.

This can come in handy in group chats which can get a bit crowded with messages, so being able to jump to messages that directly pertain to you can come in handy. That being said this is only a beta feature and it is unclear when it will roll out to the public.
