We have been hearing rumors that Sony could be working on a new flagship smartphone in the form of the Xperia XZ2. However Sony has yet to officially confirm anything, at least until now where according to a tweet by carrier Three, it seems that they have confirmed that the Xperia XZ2 is indeed in the works.

The tweet has since been deleted (which further fuels the fire), but basically a customer was asking about when the Sony Xperia XA2 would be released on Three in Ireland. The customer rep then responded by saying that they won’t be bringing in the XA2 but the XZ2 will be offered instead.

This “confirmation” follows another confirmation by Christian Haghofer, Sony Mobile’s South Africa manager, who in an interview with MyBroadband.co.za hinted that a new Xperia XZ could be in the works. “We are also very excited to announce our Xperia XZ Premium successor at Mobile World Congress this year. Dual cameras are tipped to become the norm for many flagship phones.”

Sony’s flagship was originally rumored for an announcement at CES 2018 earlier this year, but obviously that did not pan out. However the company has since scheduled a press conference of MWC 2018 which kicks off later this month, which we guess we’ll find out soon enough.
