Smartphones are essentially like computers we carry around in our pockets, and just like laptops that are catered for a variety of users, so are smartphones where there might be some who need a phone that can withstand drops, shocks, immersion in water, and so on. If that’s you, then you might be interested in the latest Cat S61 smartphone.
Right off the bat you can tell that the Cat S61 smartphone isn’t like the others, where the company doesn’t seem to bother with curved displays, or displays that push their way to the edges, creating the illusion that there are no bezels. Instead it seems that the Cat S61 has been built for rather specific purposes.
This includes functionality like a built-in FLIR thermal imaging camera, which can be used to see in the dark, look into machinery to identify problems, and so on. It will also come with a Volatile Organic Compound sensor that might be handy for those who work with toxic chemicals as the sensor will be able to take readings and warn users if they are in danger.
It also comes equipped with a laser and that can to measure objects of up to 10 meters in distance. There are also rugged features like an IP68 certification, Mil-spec 810G that offers drop and water protection. Unfortunately the Cat S61 does not come cheap and is priced at $1,000, which in addition to the features mentioned above, will also come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 4,500mAh battery.
