It was rumored at one point that the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ will have larger batteries than their predecessors but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Recent reports have suggested that the new handsets will retain the 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries of their predecessors respectively. Some images of Galaxy S9 parts have surfaced online today which possibly reveal the battery capacities of Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphones.

Spare batteries for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ with model numbers SM-G960 and SM-G965 has been listed by Union Repair, an online wholesale store for mobile repair parts. The same online store has also listed a charging port flex cable for the Galaxy S9.

The batteries mentioned online for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh capacities respectively. If they’re accurate, it means that the new handsets will have exactly the same battery capacity as their predecessors.

It also means that any battery life improvements will depend on the improved power efficiency of other internal components as well as software optimizations. Just how better or worse things get will only become clear once the Galaxy S9 is put to the test in the real world.

There has also been some other evidence to support reports that the new flagships won’t have bigger batteries. The Galaxy S9 was recently spotted at a telecom regulator in Brazil and the listing also mentioned a 3,000mAh battery.

Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy S9 on February 25th and will confirm all of the details about its new flagship then.
