The common narrative that we’re hearing is that Instagram loves to “borrow” features from Snapchat, which they have done rather shamelessly, with Stories being a notable feature that Instagram “borrowed”. However it looks like the tables are turning because now Snapchat appears to be introducing a new feature that Instagram actually introduced first.

According to a report from TechCrunch, it seems that Snapchat will now support Giphy’s GIFs which can be added to posts in sticker form, as you can see in the screenshot above. For the most part this will essentially function the same way as the feature does for Instagram’s Stories, where users can select GIFs from Giphy’s repositories and add them to posts, livening them up a bit and making things more interesting.

Users will be able to scale the GIF sticker according to their preference by pinching the screen. Support for multiple GIFs are also present, and it will also feature pinning where you can press and hold a sticker in a spot in the video, in which the sticker will then move, rotate, and scale based on what it is pinned to.

We’re sure that this new GIF feature is something that Snapchat users are probably pretty thrilled about, although whether or not it’ll make up for the new design changes remains to be seen.
