Google was expected to offer the Android P developer preview download this month and that is precisely what the company has done today. Factory images for the next major iteration of the Android platform have been released today by the company. Developers and Android enthusiasts can now get it up and running on select devices.

As expected, Android P brings support for the notch, something that Apple popularized with the iPhone X and is now being widely embraced by Android OEMs. Android P will let apps manage how the content is displayed on devices with a notch on the front.

Google has also improved visibility and function in notifications with Android P. The new Messaging Style notification will highlight who is messaging and how the user can reply. Android P also adds support for multi-camera API which will allow users to access streams simultaneously from two or more physical cameras on the device.

All of the changes that Google had detailed today are meant for developers as they will be the ones putting this first Android P developer preview through its paces. Google hasn’t really detailed the consumer-facing new features of Android P just yet.

It’s going to do that at the I/O 2018 conference later this month and that’s also where it’s going to reveal the dessert moniker for Android P. The official factory images are now available for download for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and the Pixel 2 XL.
