Season 8 will be the last season of HBO’s Game of Thrones and will officially conclude the story as far as the TV series is concerned (the books are still being written). There is no doubt that the show’s creators are looking to end it with a bang, and sure enough we might have an epic battle to look forward to.

In a report from Watchers on the Wall (via IGN), it seems that there is a battle scene in one of the episodes in season 8 that apparently took a whopping 55 nights to film. Assistant director Jonathan Quinlan also shared a thank you note on Instagram (which has since been taken down) that reads, “When tens of millions of people around the world watch this episode a year from now, they won’t know how hard you worked. They won’t care how tired you were or how tough it was to do your job in sub-freezing temperatures.”

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is currently set to be aired in April 2019. Every new season has been released on an annual basis so far, but for the final season the show’s creators have decided to take a break in between which meant that fans will not be getting any Game of Thrones content this year.

It is unclear as to what the future holds for the series as there have been talks about creating a new series that will act as a prequel of sorts. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen.
