Verizon has a parental control app that allows parents to control (to a certain extent) the smartphones of their kids. Dubbed FamilyBase, it seems that Verizon has officially decided to rename it where it will now be known as the Verizon Smart Family app. The carrier has also updated some of its features.

One of the new features that Verizon will be adding comes in the form of location tracking. This means that in practice parents should be able to keep tabs on the location of their kids at all times. According to Susie Fernandes, senior product manager at Verizon, “Being a parent in today’s digital world can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. We created Verizon Smart Family to give parents the tools they need to help them raise tech savvy kids with a healthy and responsible approach to screen time and content viewing.”

In addition to being able to track the location of your kids, the app will also allow parents to manage the screen time by pausing the internet, check battery status, and also provide a summary of text and call activity. As expected from a parental control app, it will also allow parents to block websites and apps that they deem to be inappropriate.

However all of these features do not come free as the basic Verizon Smart Family subscription will cost $5 a month. However if you want location tracking then you’ll have to subscribe to the premium version that will cost $10 a month.
