Google Assistant Is Compatible With Over 5,000 Smart Home Devices

Google Assistant was recently found to be much better than its competitors like Siri and Alexa. The company has been working on improving the experience for users with the aim of enabling them to control all of the devices and appliances in their home with just voice commands. Google has made significant progress in ensuring that Assistant works with all kinds of connected devices. It has announced this morning that Assistant is now compatible with more than 5,000 smart home devices.

That’s a considerable increase over the past few months given the fact that it was only compatible with some 1,500 smart home devices in January this year. The devices that it supports include security systems, dryers, lights, plugs, thermostats, fans, locks, sensors, doorbells, cameras, refrigerators, and many more.

Google also revealed in its blog post this morning that one of the most popular ways that people use Assistant is to watch movies and shows on TV and for music playback. Media and entertainment queries such as “play SportCenter” have surged 400 percent in the past six months, according to the company.

This is just the beginning and we can be sure that Assistant will be compatible with more than just 5,000 devices in the months to come. We’re likely going to hear about more devices getting compatibility at Google’s upcoming I/O event. The company has also revealed that it’s working with its partners to bring the Assistant to the next-generation of TVs that will be available later this year.
