Google is no stranger when it comes to smart home products. The company already has smart speakers and smart thermostats, so it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Google also made a smart light called the “dLight”, according to a tweet by Ben Gold who shared a photo of the device on his page.

If you like what you see in the photo, we have some bad news for you because it turns out that you cannot buy it. For the most part it doesn’t look too special or too unique and sports a clean and simple design, which is actually what we like about it. It features a lamp head and can be directed up or down and apparently it’s been designed that way to provide better lighting for video conferences.

Given that a lot of Google employees were working from home during the pandemic, this actually made sense. It is also said to feature the Google Assistant logo, so presumably it does have Google Assistant support in it. So like we said, this is a lamp that we as regular consumers will not be able to buy because apparently it’s only for employees.

It is a bit of a pity because we’re sure that some of you would have loved to get your hands on it, but who knows, maybe if there is enough demand for it, Google could eventually reconsider making it available to the rest of us.
