Snapchat may get its own gaming hub, according to a new report, as the service looks to introduce new features to retain user growth. The report claims that Snapchat’s gaming platform is going to be launched later this year and that the company has already started signing game publishers for this purpose.

The Information reports that Snap is building a proper gaming hub inside Snapchat which it’s going to launch later this year. Developers will be able to deliver proper gaming experiences to Snapchat users through this platform.

The platform will reportedly host games which Snapchat users will be able to download from an app store within the ephemeral messaging app. The scribe mentions that Snapchat has been working on this for over a year and that its reported acquisition of PlayCanvas is related to this effort. PlayCanvas makes software for developing mobile games.

It remains to be seen, though, if the games that are offered through this platform will take advantage of Snapchat’s augmented reality features. It remains a possibility since Snapchat is pretty big on AR. Whether or not this will be enough to reignite user growth for the service remains to be seen, though.

Snap hasn’t officially commented on this report as yet.
