Discord today announced that it’s launching its own game store. It will begin selling games online through its own platform. Discord is launching the game store in beta today and it will be open to a limited number of its users. It will specifically open the beta to 50,000 users from Canada first before expanding it to users from other markets.

For those who are unaware, Discord is a popular voice and text chat service for gamers. It’s now moving into Steam’s territory with the launch of its own games store.

The store will let Discord users purchase games from publishers such as THQ and Deep Silver. Games from indie publishers will also be sold through the platform.

Those who are a part of this beta will be able to use an upgraded version of Discord Nitro. The subscribers of its monthly service will get to play a variety of games that are curated by the platform.

The games that will be offered to them include the likes of Darksiders: Warmastered Edition and Saints Row: The Third. The Discord Nitro subscription service will cost $4.99 per month or $49.99 annually.

A new sponsorship program called “First on Discord” has also been launched. Indie developers who exclusively launch their titles on the platform will get funding for developing their games. The First on Discord titles can be sold on other platforms once the exclusivity period is up.
