#IFA 18 – Compact cameras used to be seen as cheap and more portable alternatives to DSLRs back in the day, at least before mirrorless cameras acted as a happy middle between portability and performance. However thanks to technology, several companies are pushing the boundaries on what we can expect from a compact camera.

In fact if you’re looking for a compact camera to take with you on your travels, Sony has recently announced a couple in the form of the HX99 and the HX95. According to Sony, they boast that both of these cameras are the world’s smallest travel high zoom cameras that also have the ability to record 4K footage.

This means that if you’re a vlogger who wants to capture high quality vlogs without a hulking setup, this could get the job done and then some. The cameras will feature a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-720mm lens, use of Sony’s BIONZ X image processing engine, a tiltable LCD, and the H99 will also feature a Touch Pad with Touch Focus and Touch Shutter functionality, along with a customizable Control Ring, but other than that both cameras will be more or less identical.

As for pricing, the HX99 will be priced at £450, while the HX95 will go for £430, and both models are expected to begin shipping this October.
