YouTube May Soon Overtake Facebook As Second Biggest U.S. Website

Facebook has long been the second biggest website in the United States. It pulls in a monumental amount of traffic across the globe and indeed in the United States as well. It’s second only to Google which is the world’s most widely used internet search engine. However, it seems that YouTube is set to overtake Facebook as the second biggest website in the United States soon.

The five most visited websites in the United States over the past few years have been Google, Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, and Amazon. Market research firm SimilarWeb mentions in a study that Facebook has seen a steep decline in monthly page visits in the United States.

They’re down from 8.5 billion to 4.7 billion in the last two years. Even though Facebook’s app traffic has grown during this period, it’s apparently not enough to cover this gap. On the other hand, the study mentions that YouTube has seen increased traffic in addition to the increase in app viewership.

If things continue in this manner then YouTube might very well become the second biggest website in the United States. Yahoo is expected to lose its position as well since Amazon is expected to soon generate more traffic than Yahoo on a regular basis as well. Google remains comfortably at the very top with approximately 15 billion visits last month.
