It hasn’t been smooth sailing for HTC over the past few years. The company has been bleeding money and its market share has eroded. Even though it has made some good smartphones, customers don’t really seem to be interested in picking up HTC smartphones anymore. Amid rumors that HTC might exit the market entirely, it appears that the company is working on a new flagship smartphone with 5G support.

According to reports, the company is working on a new handset which will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 855 processor from Qualcomm. The chip is expected to be built on the 7nm process technology which would bring generational improvements in performance and power efficiency.

The device is expected to ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X24 modem in addition to its latest chip. This would add support for 5G mobile networks to the handset which are largely expected to go live starting in 2019.

This goes to show that HTC hasn’t entirely given up on the smartphone market just yet and is willing to try its luck one more time to see if it can turn the tables on its bad fortune. Whether or not this device will be able to do that remains to be seen.
