IMAX has announced a new certification and licensing program called IMAX Enhanced today. It has launched this program in partnership with DTS. The idea is to bring exceptional 4K quality content to the average customer’s home. The partnership aims to deliver an unparalleled audio and video experience to them right in front of their couch.

This would be made possible by manufacturers who make new products based on this certification and licensing program. Sony Electronics is onboard while studios such as Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures are onboard in addition to Sound United.

Manufacturers are required to develop their home theater equipment to meet a meticulous set of audio and video performance standards that are set by a committee of IMAX and DTS engineers and leading technical specialists in Hollywood.

These devices will also be required to have an IMAX Mode built-in. The mode will automatically optimize the content to the standards originally intended by the filmmaker. IMAX and DTS are working on this with studios and content partners to digitally remaster other content and popular movies.

The program is going to launch in the fall and home theater devices from partners which are based on the standards will hit the market thereafter.
