Samsung has just announced its Galaxy A6 smartphone, a relatively affordable phone that is part of the Galaxy A series, which has been successful for some time now.
The Galaxy A6 will retail at an MSRP of $359.99, but street prices should be lower. The handset will be available with Sprint, and Samsung said that Verizon customers should get it a bit later.
On paper, this handset looks quite good (for the price): it has an Exynos 7884 8-core processor with 3GB of RAM, a camera with a large aperture of f/1.7 and a 3000 mAh battery. Now, the handset will launch with Android 8, and of course it has a fingerprint sensor and (2D) face recognition.
At the same time, Samsung is also launching the Galaxy Tab A 10.5-inch, a $329 Android tablet that also has an 8-core processor (Snapdragon 450), 3GB of RAM,32GB of storage (+400GB via micro SD, optionally). From the outside, it looks like a neatly designed tablet, although the main design difference with the higher-end models would the bezel size and the 1920×1200 LCD display (vs AMOLED).
Perhaps less known to the public, Galaxy J3 and J7 are also making an appearance in the Samsung press release. Again, these are the 2018 refresh of previous models, and these phones are designed to reach a price point of $250 (J7) and $170 (J3).
This is the most competitive segment of the market, but also one in which customers might be keener to follow the advice of an in-store sales person or stick to a brand they already like.
