With all the fuss surrounding the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max, it might be easy to forget that there is a third iPhone, the iPhone XR whose pre-orders are expected to go live soon. We know that Apple already makes official accessories such as cases for the iPhones in the form of silicone or leather, but for the iPhone XR, it seems that Apple could be headed down a different path.

In the Canadian press release for the iPhone XR, it appears that Apple has revealed that they are planning on selling official clear cases for the iPhone XR. This is a departure from the solid colors offered by the silicone and leather cases, but it also makes sense. The iPhone XR has been designed to be a cheaper and more colorful variant in the iPhone lineup, and the clear cases will allow that colorfulness to shine through.

In a way the colorful iPhone XR does remind us of the iPhone 5c, a phone that had also been similarly positioned back in the day. However the handset was not particularly well-received which even Apple themselves eventually admitted. We’re not sure if the iPhone XR will share the same fate, but given that the new iPhones cost over $1,000, there are definitely plenty of customers out there who might be more inclined to pay for a cheaper iPhone.

The iPhone XR pre-orders will be going live on the 19th of October, and is expected to be released and available on the 26th of October. For the most part it will share the same specs as the iPhone Xs, save for the camera department and also how it will use an LCD instead of an OLED screen.
