Sony is joining the list of manufacturers who have released Android 9.0 Pie for their devices. The list isn’t too long right now. Sony does have a good track record of releasing major updates for some of its devices fairly quickly. It’s keeping that up with the Android Pie update for the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. These are the first Sony phones to get Pie.

Sony has started rolling out the Pie update for the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact over-the-air in several regions. The update is over 1GB in size which isn’t surprising as it’s a major platform update. It also comes with the latest Android security patch for October 2018.

Sony already has a device that ships with Android Pie. It’s the Xperia XZ3 which was unveiled at IFA 2018 in Berlin. The Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are actually the first devices from Sony to be updated from Android Oreo to Android Pie.

Those who own any of the aforementioned devices should keep their eyes peeled for an over-the-air update notification as one would be arriving soon. It’s unclear right now when some of Sony’s other supported phones will get this update. Hopefully, it won’t be long now before it releases the update for other handsets as well.
