It was reported recently that Chinese spy agencies that put chips inside Super Micro’s hardware to spy on Western technology companies like Apple and Amazon. The claims have been denied by those companies and Super Micro itself. The Taiwanese-American founded computer company has said in a letter to its customers that it’s now reviewing its hardware to find any trace of the alleged Chinese spy chips.

“Despite the lack of any proof that a malicious hardware chip exists, we are undertaking a complicated and time-consuming review to further address the article,” the company has said in its letter.

The report came from Bloomberg, a reputable publication, which heard from unidentified intelligence and business sources that Chinese spies had placed chips inside the equipment supplied by Super Micro to companies like Apple, Amazon, and several U.S. government agencies. The chips compromised the hardware and provided Beijing with access to internal networks, it was claimed.

Even though the scribe stands by its report, Apple has called on it to retract the story. The head of U.S. intelligence has also said that no Chinese spy chips were found on servers. Many will thus be looking forward to seeing what Super Micro’s review turns up even as it has previously denied the claims made in the report.
