Google loves the color white. The majority of Google’s apps and services on both the web and mobile use a lot of white in its design, which we can’t say we blame them for using because it does help to create a very clean and minimalist look which helps in the app’s overall user-friendliness.

However as Google themselves have admitted, dark mode in apps does help conserve battery life by quite a huge margin, so the latest update to Android actually makes a lot of sense. As spotted by Android Police, the latest Android November security patch will actually force Night Mode to be enabled on your phone when the Battery Saver feature has been turned on.

What do we mean by “forced”? Previously users had the option when it came to choosing how or when to enable Night Mode. There were options such as Automatic which is based on time of day, always on, and always off. As discovered by Android Police, even when “always off” is selected, if Battery Saver is enabled, it will switch Night Mode to “always on”, suggesting that Battery Saver will override your choice.

It is unclear if this is a bug or if Google is really forcing Night Mode onto Android users, but like we said, Google has proven that a darker look does help to save battery so maybe this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
