When Capcom was asked if Resident Evil 7 would be coming to the Nintendo Switch, the company pretty much denied that it would. However a year later, Capcom had a change of heart, sort of, by launching Resident Evil 7 on the Switch via the Ubitus Game Cloud which basically allowed gamers to stream the game as they played.

It seems that this particular experiment proved to be successful enough because during a recent investor Q&A (via destructoid), the company announced that they would be further exploring its cloud gaming initiatives. “While we did release a certain title supporting cloud gaming in the first half, this was done primarily for technological research purposes and did not have a significant impact on earnings. Based on the results of this research, we will internally consider further expansion into cloud gaming.”

Capcom did not specifically mention Resident Evil 7 on the Switch, but there is a good chance that could be the game they were referring to. There are some who believe that game streaming could be the future of gaming. This is because game streaming is independent of hardware, at least on the gamer’s end, as all the processing and the hard work is done remotely.

Game streaming has yet to really kick off in earnest, but companies such as Microsoft have launched their own initiatives. Google has also launched their own platform which would allow gamers to potentially play games in their browsers.
