Every year pretty much without fail, HTC has launched a flagship smartphone, such as earlier this year with the HTC U12+. However unlike companies such as Samsung or Apple, HTC has attempted to rebrand its lineup several times, and it seems that in 2019, the HTC U series could potentially be coming to an end.

According to a report from Phandroid, they have heard that HTC might be skipping the HTC U13 in 2019. Instead their sources are telling them that we should expect “something else”, although what exactly this will be is unclear, but apparently it might be a mid-range handset that will be the company’s flagship for the year.

HTC hasn’t really been flourishing for the past few years. While they might have been one of the mainstay brands from back in the early days of the smartphone, these days HTC has pretty much taken a backseat to other brands out of China such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and OnePlus, just to name a few.

Heck, even giants such as Samsung and Apple are feeling the heat, where Huawei has managed to overtake Apple as the second largest smartphone maker, with plans to dethrone Samsung in the next couple of years. In any case we’ll just have to wait and see what HTC has in store for us next year, and hopefully we’ll have those details come CES or MWC 2019.
