Xbox One owners who have still not purchased one of the most popular titles on the planet, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG, can now rejoice because they can get it for free starting today. Microsoft has announced that PUBG is available for free on the Xbox One for a limited time.

Microsoft has confirmed that the full 1.0 release of PUBG is free for the Xbox One for a limited time. The Microsoft Store listing for the title suggests that the full game will be playable for free for a limited period of time. If that’s the case, this is essentially an extended free trial of the full game.

It would raise some questions if Microsoft made the game completely free going forward for the Xbox One. PUBG has been a timed console exclusive for the Xbox One since December last year. It was launched in beta for $29.99. Those who paid for it then would have essentially paid to test a beta version of the game if all Xbox One owners can get a free copy of the game from now on.

That being said, the timing of this promotion is worthy of note. With reports that PUBG will soon arrive on the PlayStation 4, Microsoft will certainly be looking to tempt players to keep playing PUBG on the Xbox One. That way it can continue to make money on any and all in-game purchases they make.
