Siri, Apple’s digital personal assistant, can now allow you to lock and unlock your Volkswagen car with just a voice command. This has been made possible by the car manufacturer allowing the assistant’s integration with its VW Car-Net app. The iOS app allows users to lock and unlock their car, check estimated fuel range or charge, and even enable alarms.

Locking the car becomes as simple as just saying “Hey Siri, lock my car.” Siri can also be used to start and stop a charging session for a VW electric car, locate a vehicle, set a specific temperature, and turn on the defroster. Volkswagen doesn’t offer Car-Net free to all vehicle owners.

There’s a subscription fee that’s required to be paid every month if someone wants to access all of these features. Additional features offered by the app include the ability to set a geofence, track down its location, and even access diagnostics remotely.

“Integration with Siri helps our drivers keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel,” said Abdallah Shanti, EVP, global chief information officer Volkswagen Brand & Car-IT, adding that the company constantly looks at innovative ways to make the VW Car-Net service more convenient and relevant for vehicle owners.
