Spotify Could Expand To India In A Few Months

Spotify is the world’s most popular music streaming service and the company wants to keep it that way. It’s reportedly eyeing a lucrative market to launch its service in. Spotify isn’t available in India right now but that might change in a few months if a new report is to be believed.

Variety reports that the Swedish company is looking to launch its music streaming service in the country of 1.3 billion people within six months. It will also offer an extended free trial period of 30 days like it did in Vietnam and South Africa a few months back.

Spotify has been expanding its reach to more markets across the globe. It only recently expanded to 13 new markets in North Africa and the Middle East. It currently services 78 markets altogether.

Its India launch won’t come as a surprise. Spotify did open an office in Mumbai earlier this year and hired around 300 people. It was clear that the company was doing the legwork ahead of a launch. It’s now said to have signed deals with the major music rights holders in the country to offer a substantial local collection as well at launch.

Precisely when Spotify is going to be launched in India remains to be seen. The company hasn’t provided a timeframe as yet.
