Huawei is one of the fastest growing mobile companies in the market. It shipped some 153 million units in 2017 and had aimed to cross the 200 million units milestone the following year. The company has now said that it expects to hit this milestone by December 25th, 2018.

The 200 million figure will represent global shipments, not sales to end customers, of both Huawei and its Honor sub-brand. It will be able to achieve this milestone due to rapid growth in the past three quarters. What’s impressive is that Huawei has been able to achieve this amid security concerns related to its networking products and the recent legal troubles of its CFO Meng Wanzhou.

Huawei’s smartphone division president He Gang has said that global smartphone shipments of Huawei and Honor are likely going to reach 200 million by December 25 this year. To commemorate this special occasion, the company is going to release a special edition handset on the same day.

The company has indeed seen incredible growth this year. It surpassed Apple in both the second and third quarter this year to take the second position on the list of the top smartphone vendors in the world. It’s second only to Samsung. This represents a 30 percent year over year growth for the Shenzhen-based company which shipping 153.1 million units last year, according to market research firm IDC.
