Samsung isn’t the only company that will soon launch a smartphone with a new kind of display. We are used to seeing notched displays now. They’re the little islands, for lack of a better word, at the top of the display where the front camera and other sensors are housed. The camera hole in display finds a way around the notch. The Nova 4 will be Huawei’s first smartphone with such a display and it’s coming December 17th.

The camera hole in display technology allows for the front camera to be placed underneath the display panel, effectively. That’s because there’s a hole in the panel itself so that the camera lens can see through. Samsung has been working on such a device as well called the Galaxy A8s. The company has confirmed today that it will conduct an event on December 10th in Beijing to unveil this device.

Huawei, arguably the biggest competitor for Samsung in recent years, will present its own version of this display technology a week later on December 17th. It has also confirmed the launch date for the Huawei Nova 4 on Chinese social network Weibo.

Not much else is known about this smartphone so far but it’s most likely going to be a premium mid-range smartphone. So it may come with Huawei’s Kirin 710 processor and other specs to match. Huawei will only confirm the official details of this device come December 17th. We only have to wait for a couple of weeks to get the full picture of this smartphone.
