Skype Also Gets Live Captions And Subtitles

Microsoft hasn’t just announced the rollout of live captions and subtitles for PowerPoint today. It has also been confirmed that this feature is coming to Skype as well. This announcement was made to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Skype will now be able to provide its users call captioning with live subtitles and captions.

The feature is going to work on the latest version of Skype for both one-on-one and group calls. The idea behind this feature is to provide a more inclusive experience for all Skype users, particularly those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

There are simple settings to enable this feature either for a single call or to keep it enabled for all calls. The live captions and subtitles are optimized to be continuous, fast, and contextually updated as people speak. The captions and subtitles auto-scroll in a call currently but additional viewing options will soon be available, such as the ability to scroll through them in a separate window.

Skype will soon receive translations that support over 20 languages and dialects as well. The new translations will enable users to read subtitles in the language of their choice in every call. Translations can also be turned on through a simple setting toggle.
