Laptop technology has evolved greatly over the years, where we are seeing slimmer laptops that can still pack quite a punch. However one thing missing from laptops would be OLED displays, where pretty much all laptops have relied on LCDs. However that is expected to change, thanks to Samsung who has recently taken the wraps off a 15.6-inch 4K OLED screen.

According to the company, they claim that this is the world’s first 15.6-inch 4K OLED display. One of the upsides to using OLED is that it can produce deeper blacks and more saturated colors, making images “pop”. It is one of the reasons why Samsung’s phones have always been popular as they were one of the first to introduce the use of OLEDs to their smartphones.

For users who want to edit videos and photos, OLEDs are also said to be better at color reproduction which should help with that. As to which companies will be using Samsung’s technology, given that Dell and HP announced 4K OLED laptops at CES 2019 earlier this month, it looks like we might have already known.

There is no word on which other laptop makers will adopt the display technology, but we imagine that just like smartphones, it is only a matter of time before OLEDs on laptops become the norm.
