Smartphone manufacturers are out in full force at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona. 5G is the buzzword of the year and a few of them are unveiling their first 5G smartphones at the event. Xiaomi is one of them. The company has shown off the Mi Mix 3 5G ahead of MWC 2019, it’s Xiaomi’s first 5G smartphone.

This is actually the 5G version of a device that Xiaomi already launched in China back in December last year. It has the same ceramic body and aluminum frame of that device. It also retains the magnetic slider which houses the front camera and sensors. These components are accessible once the display is slid down.

The processor and modem are the only major differences. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 platform as well as the company’s X50 5G modem. All other features remain the same. The device is capable of recording slow-motion video in 960 frames per second and also has a Google Assistant button.

Xiaomi has partnered with several European carriers to bring this device to market. The carriers include the likes of Vodafone, Sunrise, Orange, Telefonica, 3, and TIM. The company is going to offer this device in both Sapphire Blue and Onyx Black colors for €599 in May this year. Since Xiaomi doesn’t sell its smartphones officially in the United States just yet, there’s no saying when customers in the United States will be able to purchase a 5G smartphone from the company.
