Qualcomm isn’t due to unveil its next flagship mobile platform until later in the year but that doesn’t mean that the company isn’t working on it already. No official information has been released about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 specs, at least that’s what it’s expected to be called, but a tipster suggests that it may feature on-chip 5G and support for LPDDR5 memory.

Tipster Roland Quandt claims that there are two variants of the Qualcomm SM8250 which is apparently referred to by employees as the Snapdragon 865. Both variants are said to support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.0 storage. However, only one may have an integrated Qualcomm 5G modem.

It’s interesting to see that Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile platform is expected to have support for DDR5 memory. Samsung did complete validation of a prototype DDR5 module last year so it may now be in a position to start mass producing the modules.

Qualcomm itself hasn’t said much about the Snapdragon 865 and might not for a few months at the very least. As far as where the next flagship mobile platform will be produced, recent rumors suggest that Qualcomm may be returning to Samsung’s foundry to get the Snapdragon 865 mass produced. Neither Qualcomm nor Samsung have confirmed the arrangement yet.
