Verizon has promised to launch its mobile 5G service in more than 30 cities across the United States this year. To that end, it has announced that the 5G Ultra Wideband service has gone live in Denver today. It’s also going to flip the switch on the network for Providence come July 1st. As you’d expect, 5G coverage will be available in select areas of the cities initially.

Verizon’s 5G service in Denver will initially be concentrated in the areas of Highlands, South of 37th between Tejon and Navajo Streets with coverage also being found throughout LoDo and around Coors Field. The service will be available around popular landmarks such as Sculpture Park, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Areas of Capitol Hill, and in the central business district.

Coverage in Providence will initially be limited to parts of College Hill, Federal Hill, Mt. Hope, and around landmarks such as Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design and Providence College.

The carrier says that customers should expect typical download speeds of 450 Mbps on the network with peak speeds of over 1.5 Gbps with a latency of less than 30 milliseconds. Verizon will continue to expand coverage in these areas so that more customers can take advantage of its next-generation mobile network.
