Earlier this year, Huawei announced the Mate X foldable phone, the company’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. However, the handset was delayed in June where Huawei announced that they would be performing additional tests on the handset to ensure that they do not experience the same build quality issues that Samsung did with its Galaxy Fold.

Now that Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is poised for a return this September, where does Huawei stand with the Mate X? Unfortunately, if you were hoping to see it released anytime soon, you might be disappointed to learn that will not be the case. According to Huawei’s director of consumer business, He Gang, he revealed that the Mate X is still not ready to be launched in the market just yet.

According to the executive, “Everyone should be very clear that Huawei’s quality requirements are very demanding. If it does not meet the quality requirements, we will not let the products go on the market.” He adds, “We have invested heavily in Mate X. As for when Samsung’s device will hit the market, it is not a key point for us to consider. The key point we consider is to hope that consumers can get this product when they get it. We ensure high-quality products with good consumer experience…”

This sounds like the phone might not be ready anytime soon, so if you were thinking about getting it, you might be in for a wait. Then again, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Since we only ever get one first impression, we can’t blame Huawei for wanting to get it right.
