The latest major Windows 10 update, version 1903, May 2019 to be precise, has been blocked by Microsoft on its Surface Book 2. The company says that this has been done because of a compatibility issue which resulted in some apps and games which used the NVIDIA GPU to crash once the update was installed. It has blocked the update in order to resolve the glitch.

Surface Book 2 owners will, therefore, be unable to install the version 1903, May 2019 update on their Windows 10 machine until a fix for the glitch is rolled out. It remains to be seen how quickly it will be sent out.

Some of you might be aware that this isn’t the first problem that Microsoft has faced with the Windows 10 May 2019 update. It had warned a couple of months ago that the update may not install properly if an external USB storage device or SD card was in use.

The simplest workaround for that issue was to simply remove the USB device or microSD card before installing the update. There won’t be such a quick workaround for this particular GPU-related glitch so it might take a few days for Microsoft to get everything sorted. Until then, Surface Book 2 owners can just sit tight.
