Microsoft Word is one of the world’s most popular productivity apps so it’s no surprise that the app has proven to be a hit on Google’s mobile OS as well. Latest Google Play Store stats show that the Android version of Microsoft Word has been installed a whopping one billion times. Most of Microsoft’s other Office apps have been doing well too.

Excel, a popular spreadsheet app, has more than 500 installs on Android and the same holds true for OneNote, PowerPoint, and OneDrive as well. Outlook for Android is gradually picking up pace as well as it has amassed more than 100 million installs on Android.

It’s pertinent to note here, though, that these figures may not necessarily reflect all installs from the Google Play Store. Microsoft does have agreements with some device manufacturers whereby its Office apps are pre-loaded on their devices. You’d find the Office suite on flagship smartphones from Samsung, for example.

What’s interesting, though, is that even though cloud-based services like Google Docs have become quite popular over the past few years, most people and indeed businesses would much rather continue to use Microsoft Office, a software that they have all long been familiar with even on desktop platforms.
