Fast-charging technology isn’t exactly new, but as some of you might recall, earlier this year, Xiaomi took the wraps off their Super Charge Turbo fast-charging technology that offered speeds of up to 100W. What this means is that based on a 4,000mAh battery, it would only take 17 minutes to fill it up.

For those wondering when we might see the tech make its way into smartphones, you’ll be pleased to learn that during Xiaomi’s Developer Conference, the company has hinted that it will be arriving in 2020. The company also went on to detail some of the features of the fast-charging tech.

This includes how the charger will feature a high-voltage charge pump and a double-cell battery architecture. There will also be various safety features built into it, with Xiaomi claiming that there will be 9-layers of protection. There will also be an independent MCU controlling the charging, and it also uses a MTW battery structure that will help reduce temperatures and internal resistance.

It will be interesting to see how this charging tech fares. This is because there is a potential for fast-charging tech to reduce the overall lifespan of the battery, but if fast-charging is a priority to you, then this is definitely worth keeping an eye out for.
