What makes a game immersive and fun to play? Obviously having a great storyline and gameplay helps. Next up is its graphics, but let’s not forget about the audio from the game, where having realistic sound effects and a killer soundtrack will no doubt help make players feel like they’re really there.

After all, there is a reason why soundtracks for games are so popular, because it can totally add to the mood. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, the company could be looking not just to boost the performance of its console, but also improve on its audio quality.

This is according to a description for a GDC 2020 panel where it reads, “Learn from the audio designers of Borderlands 3 and Gears of War 5 around how a collaboration between Microsoft, Dolby, and our middleware partners kicked off a revolution with spatial sound that turns any pair of headphones into a multi-dimensional gateway to another world. Attendees will dive deep into the audio design pipeline (Project Acoustics) and the relationship to dedicated hardware-acceleration on newer generation Xbox consoles.”

That being said, it should be noted that for the most part, many gamers are more than happy using the default sound cards that typically come on motherboards, but if you think that audio quality on consoles could do with a boost, then the Xbox Series X could be worth keeping an eye out for.
