Coming in 14-inch or 15-inch display sizes depending on the model, the new Yoga 9 series is Lenovo’s high-end offering to consumers for the holidays.

Lenovo Yoga 9i

For most people who can spend $1399+ the Yoga 9i is the go-to laptop. Its design is a derivative of the 360-degree Yoga C940. It features an extremely rigid aluminum body, with what is probably the best speaker for that laptop category, so it is a multimedia powerhouse and a great laptop overall.

The 14-inch version has a leather screen-cover option that could be great if you are worried about scratches on the aluminum body. Road warriors should consider this.

The biggest update is the new Intel Tiger-Lake 10th generation processors, and the 15-inch model will even get the Core i9 HK series, which is a powerful laptop processor. A discrete GPU option exists, although it is “only” a GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q.

Overall, the Yoga 9i seems like a sure-bet, solid choice, without surprise: a beefier & better version of the Yoga C940. If you do not mind the size, I would recommend looking at the 15-inch model.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i

The Yoga Slim 9i is a new luxurious design that focuses on aesthetics and thinness. We really like the idea of having a glass palm rest area because it should feel better than metal or plastic.

The trackpad is very well integrated into the palm rest and that gives the laptop a unique minimalist look. If there are no performance tradeoffs, we might wonder why no one has done it before, because it looks futuristic.

At 13.9mm thin (0.54 inches) and with a weight of 1.26kg (2.64 lbs.), this appears to be an excellent computer for the executive type of person who deals with email, documents, and video calls.

Unlike many ultrathin, the system configuration can be pushed to 16GB RAM and 2TB of internal SSD storage, which is great. There are even three Thunderbolt 3 ports in case you want to use it on a desk with all the wired connectivity.

The Yoga Slim 9i processor options have not yet been announced, so, we will have to see what the performance options are.

The design uses an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, like high-end smartphones, and the 3D Contour Glass display option is one of the top design characteristics for 2020 laptops.

Looking at the specifications, including excellent display options and front-facing speakers, it also seems to be a great entertainment and communications computer.

Both these laptops are worthy of your attention, and we will hopefully have an opportunity to review them on this site. If you’re into gaming, look at our coverage of the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and its really interesting keyboard.
