One of the downsides to Android phones are the software updates. This is because it really depends on the manufacturer of your phone and how often and how long they plan to support it, so one person’s experience will be different from another. However, the good news is that if you plan on getting Google’s Pixel 6 phones, you could be in for a treat.

This is because according to a report from FrontPageTech, they claim that for the Pixel 6 series, Google will start offering users five years worth of software updates. However, it might be worth noting that the report simply mentions software updates. It does not mention if this covers major Android updates or if we’re simply talking about security updates.

If it is the former, then it would put Google’s Pixel phones on par with Apple’s iPhones in which Apple continues to offer major iOS updates for its older devices. If it is the latter, it’s still not a bad thing and is an improvement over the current system. Right now, Google offers 3 years worth of total updates for its Pixel phones which covers both major Android updates and security updates.

So bumping it to five years is still a good thing because it means that even though Pixel users might not get the latest Android versions, at least they’ll still be able to hang onto their phones for longer while having that peace of mind.
