Following the transition of their partnership from a research-and-development model to a strategic co-creation framework last December, Leica and Xiaomi have officially introduced the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi. Debuted at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, this device represents the latest “fruit” of their collaboration, following the launch of the Xiaomi 17 series.
Under the motto “Focus on the Essential,” the smartphone is designed to bridge the gap between mobile technology and traditional photography. Matthias Harsch, CEO of Leica, emphasized during the presentation that the device aims to let technology drive creativity, maintaining a philosophy the German manufacturer has followed for over a century.
Design and Hardware
The Leitzphone features a premium build consisting of an aluminum alloy body with a nickel-anodized finish. A standout hardware feature is the Leica Camera Ring located on the rear module. This physical ring is engineered to replicate the tactile sensation of a traditional camera, allowing users to manually adjust parameters such as zoom and exposure by rotating it.
Imaging Capabilities
While sharing most core specifications with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the Leitzphone distinguishes itself through exclusive software and specialized optics. The camera system includes:
-
Main Sensor: A 50 MP “Light Fusion 1050L” 1-inch sensor utilizing LOFIC technology for enhanced dynamic range and HDR performance.
-
Telephoto: A 200 MP Leica lens with a variable focal length (75–100mm) and mechanical optical zoom, capable of reaching a 400mm equivalent.
-
Software: The “Leica Essential Mode” and “Leica Looks” simulate the aesthetic qualities of classic models like the Leica M9 and M3.

The device also supports professional-grade video, including Dolby Vision and ACES Log at 4K/120 fps. The Leica Leitzphone is positioned as a boutique flagship with a retail price of €1,999 (~$2,318) available in select markets.
Photography Kit Pro
To enhance the photographic capabilities of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the brand has introduced the Photography Kit Pro. This accessory features a significantly lighter and more compact design compared to previous iterations, incorporating a wrist strap and professional-grade controls, including a customizable two-stage shutter and a dedicated video button. Inspired by traditional camera ergonomics, the kit is IP54-rated for dust and water resistance and is available in various colors.

The hardware includes a non-slip PU leather grip reminiscent of iconic Leica camera bodies, an integrated 2,000 mAh battery to extend shooting sessions, and a removable shutter button for personalized ergonomics. To streamline the user experience, the kit activates an exclusive Fastshot user interface, providing comprehensive manual control for professional-level mobile photography.
The Photography Kit Pro didn’t have the price disclosed so far.
