Valve has officially announced the pricing and technical specifications for its Linux-based desktop console, the Steam Machine, which functions as both a console and a compact gaming PC. Driven by the ongoing component crisis, initial costs are higher than anticipated. The base model, featuring a 512 GB NVMe SSD, is priced at $1,049. To deter scalpers and automated bots, Valve is utilizing a randomized queue system for reservations, mirroring the strategy used during the Steam Deck launch.

Customers wishing to purchase the Steam Machine alongside the Steam Controller can opt for a combined bundle priced at $1,128. Purchased individually, the controller costs $99, making the package slightly more economical. For users requiring additional storage, Valve offers a 2 TB NVMe SSD variant for $1,349, or $1,428 when bundled with the controller. This higher-tier version also includes two extra decorative plates for visual customization.

While these prices exceed those of traditional consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Valve positions the Steam Machine as a compact gaming computer capable of running PC titles without the footprint of a standard tower. Nevertheless, high component costs—particularly regarding memory—have inflated the final price and impacted availability. Valve noted that global memory shortages directly affected production, leaving launch volumes uncertain and potentially extending wait times. The reservation period remains open until June 25, after which participants will be selected via a lottery system to complete their purchases or join a waiting list.
