Torne announced by Sony

Sony has just announced a new digital terrestrial tuner and application for the PS3 known as torne – and it will come in the form of a Blu-ray disc, hitting Japan later this March for 9,980 yen after tax. This allows one to watch digital terrestrial broadcasting while recording them for posterity or later viewing with missing family members on the PS3’s hard drive. This is made possible by connecting the digital terrestrial tuner to the PS3 system thanks to the attached USB cable, while making sure the application is installed from the Blu-ray disc. Basically, this is the Japanese version of the European PlayTV, although you do get enhanced functionality. Too bad for folks living Stateside as it does not look likely for it ever making its way across the Pacific.
