Sprint HTC EVO 4G OTA Update Bricking The Phone?

Some bad news for HTC EVO 4G owners has surfaced. While there might have been some cause to celebrate as Sprint released an OTA (over-the-air) update for the device, many users are reporting that the update actually bricked their device. It’s possible that some users might have modified their phones through unofficial means, but many were also running the device as it was without any fancy changes to the phone. The issue seems to be quite serious, as Sprint has quickly pulled the update, and issued a statement notifying users of it. What would be the solution to folks who had their phones bricked as a result of this update wasn’t entirely clear at the moment. The statement from Sprint reads:

“While the vast majority of consumers successfully downloaded and installed the most recent HTC EVO 4G software update, we have received a handful of reports from customers having some issues with the update. In light of this, HTC and Sprint have decided to temporarily halt distribution of this software release until we can investigate further. We expect to be able to resume software updates shortly.”
