India could ban Blackberry, Skype and Gmail

The Department of Telecom (DoT) in India could very well place a ban on BlackBerry devices, Skype as well as Gmail services if they do not comply with the government’s request to ensure that data going through their networks will be made available to security agencies in a readable format. Apart from that, those who walk in the corridors of power in that part of the world have also decided to amend the IT laws, making it compulsory for foreign companies as those that do not require a local licence to provide all the data required by Indian law enforcement agencies. Looks like they’re getting paranoid, but about what? We look on with interest as to how the affected companies will respond. Will this signal Google’s spat with the country which has the 2nd largest population in the world after their initial squabble with China?
