Real-time 3D Face Reproduction Using GPGPU

Sometimes technology delivers results that are rather freaky and if you’re fond of such things, check out the video after the jump. A recent demonstration by Tohto C-Tech saw a 3D camera setup used to capture a person’s face and reproduce it in 3D on a monitor in real-time. It was mentioned that an undisclosed GPGPU setup was needed in order to make it work since typical CPUs just weren’t quick enough to render the final product. The cameras are used to capture the face from two different viewpoints, enabling the sides of the face to be shown in addition to the front. Freaky?
