NEC launches the world’s first contactless hybrid fingerprint scanner

HS100-10

Do you ever get freaked out by the idea of having to touch a fingerprint scanner because it’s something that’s been used by hundreds of people that were before you? Well, fret not; NEC has just created the perfect for such a solution. They’ve just announced the commercial launch of the HS100-10 – the world’s first scanner that can simultaneously acquire fingerprint and finger vein characteristics without having to touch your finger. And because the scanner is contactless, this makes it impervious to sweaty fingers – something that current fingerprint scanners have been having trouble with. Since the scanner scans both fingerprints and vein characteristics, this technology is going to be more secure and harder to cheat. The HS100-10 will be exhibited at Pulse 2011 in Las Vegas this weekend, and will start shipping in May. For more info on the scanner head here.
