Microsoft Kinect

We knew something felt different at E3 when we bopped around swinging our arms and legs in various Kinect game demos, but we couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Sure enough, Microsoft’s Xbox senior product manager David Dennis has let it be known that Microsoft’s implemented better accuracy improvements to the Kinect since its launch via software updates.

Kinect Fun Labs is one example where more accurate motion tracking is important. Dennis says thanks to the power of software updates, the Xbox 360 has been able to continue to offer fresh experiences year in and out. We couldn’t agree more; that Windows Phone 7/Windows 8 MetroUI-style dashboard shown off at Microsoft’s E3 press conference was a gorgeous makeover.

Kinect fixes will only get better over time. Dennis says:

“These [updates] are very deliberate and planned and programmed. There are already people working on things for next year and the year after inside our secret bunkers, and we’ll continue to bring amazing stuff that consumers love.”

Personally, I’d like Microsoft to iron out all of the kinks and refine Kinect ASAP. Maybe then I’ll finally buy one  and jump aboard this Minority Report-esque future.
